Program Curriculum

Training Details & Objectives

Duration & Commitment: 6 Months or 1 Year program (8 hours a day). Includes weekly academic programs (journal clubs, case based discussions).
Eligibility Criteria: Postgraduate degree, Diploma, or DNB in OBG or Radiology.
Special Postings: 15-day clinical postings in Paediatric Surgery and Genetics departments (allotted based on candidate availability).

Key Program Objectives

  • Perform comprehensive 2D diagnostic ultrasound examinations in all trimesters.
  • Use 3D ultrasound technology appropriately and perform fetal cardiac ECHO.
  • Be clinically competent in the prenatal diagnosis, counselling, and management of common fetal abnormalities.
  • Be clinically competent and certified in first-trimester screening for chromosomal abnormalities.
  • Understand neonatal implications of common fetal abnormalities and counsel families accordingly.

Course Guidelines

  • Includes initial observation for 15 days, followed by mentored hands-on training.
  • Broad exposure to normal and abnormal cases with in-house Fetal ECHO exposure.
  • No stipend will be paid during the course. Fees are non-refundable.

Understanding the ultrasound machine and physics of ultrasound, knobology, imaging principles, probe manipulation, and artifact identification.

History taking, counselling, and communication skills to effectively interact with patients and convey diagnostic findings with clarity and empathy.

Genetic counseling, pedigree drawing, modes of inheritance of genetic disorders, prenatal screening strategies, and counseling for prenatal diagnosis.

In-depth clinical and diagnostic training covering:

  • Scans: Early Pregnancy Scan, 11-13.6 weeks screening (aneuploidy & structures), anomaly/TIFFA scans, fetal cardiac echo (normal & abnormal), growth scans (anatomy, biometry, liquor, placenta), and fetal Doppler (umbilical, MCA, DV screening).
  • Complications: Miscarriage and fetal death, fetal growth disorders, multiple pregnancy, red cell alloimmunization, antepartum hemorrhage, preterm delivery, gynecological problems, and infections.
  • Structural Anomalies: Central Nervous System (CNS), face/neck, cardiac, pulmonary, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, skeletal anomalies, fetal tumors, and fetal hydrops.
  • Management: Fetal embryology, pathology, screening, diagnosis, recurrence risk, prognosis, and prevention.

Coordinating postnatal follow-up, correlating prenatal findings with postnatal outcomes, and communicating with pediatric care teams.

Paper and poster presentation, clinical research methodology, participating in CME events, and academic documentation. Assessment will be done at the end of 6 months and 1 year.
